Year 10 Film
Welcome to Year 10 Film.
Be prepared for a creative journey through the art of visual media...
exploring the realms of media and technology, theory, and media basics.
During this year-long course we will explore four main units over the whole year. As this is now a half-year course, the year long course has been condensed and shortened. You will complete TWO of the four units on these web pages.
"Movie Trailers" examines the world of movie trailers and this short, but effective visual medium for promoting upcoming films. We will examine a range of different movie trailers and by the end of the unit you will make one in small groups. Formative & Summative Assessments
The "Music Video" unit explores the world of music and video. We begin with an examination of film basics (including shot types etc) and editing techniques and move onto the genre of music videos. End result - make your own music video in groups (brainstorm, research, write script, shoot video, edit). Summative Assessment
The McGlashan News unit - will require students in pairs or groups of three to come up with a John McGlashan College news segment. Each student will be responsible for putting together a two-3 minute news package - writing a script, interviewing people, doing camera work, and editing the segment together.
It could be a sports feature on a local school sporting hero, an investigative journalism piece on a topic around school, or an entertainment piece focussing on a school show or doing a book review on new releases in the library. Summative Assessment.
"Short Film" unit. In groups you will shoot a short film, but will learn about how to write a treatment, script, storyboard, pre-production elements (including the different roles of a Director, Producer, D.O.P etc), editing, and post-production elements. Summative Assessment
