superhero assessment task:
Using the Mono Myth or "Hero's Journey", create a group Superhero story. Based on Joseph Campbell's book - "The Hero with a thousand faces".
What is the Hero's journey? Think of it as a cycle. The journey begins and ends in the Hero's ordinary world. But the quest passes through an unfamiliar special world. Along the way are some key events...
Your task: Using the Mono Myth, in groups, create a Superhero story in groups of four. Plan it out in your journals
This is your summative assessment task for the unit...
In groups of four devise a superhero movie trailer.
Firstly, write a short script, rehearse and film it using the iMovie trailer feature (Superhero trailer) and then show it to the class. You could use one of the Superheroes you created in the online Hero generator task.
All members in your group must be involved with all aspects of the devising, writing, rehearsing, performing and filming processes.
Your superhero story must contain the following characters: superhero, villain, narrator (who is the vocal component of this performance and narrates the storyline) and either a goddess, temptress, or superhero sidekick.
You must follow the narrative structure elements, "MonoMyth" for a good strong Superhero story. Use the Superhero trailer template to create the slides needed.
What is the Hero's journey? Think of it as a cycle. The journey begins and ends in the Hero's ordinary world. But the quest passes through an unfamiliar special world. Along the way are some key events...
- Status Quo - That's where we start.
- Call to Adventure - The Hero receives a mysterious message, an invitation? A challenge?
- Assistance - The Hero needs some help, probably from someone older, wiser.
- Departure - The Hero crosses the threshhold, from his normal safe home, and enters the special world, and adventure.
- Trials - Being a Hero is hard work. Our Hero solves a riddle, slays a monster, escapes from a trap.
- Approach - It's time to face the biggest ordeal, the Hero's worst fear.
- Crisis - This is the Hero's darkest hour. He faces death and possibly even dies, only to be reborn.
- Treasure - As a result, the Hero claims some treasure, special recognition, or power.
- Result - This can vary between stories. Do the monsters bow down before the Hero? Or do they chase him as he flees from the special world?
- Return - After all that adventure, the Hero returns to his ordinary world.
- New Life - This quest has changed the Hero. He has outgrown his old life
- Resolution - All the tangled plot lines get straightened out.
- Status Quo - But upgraded to a new level. Nothing is quite the same when it comes to your Hero.
