DRAMA (NCEA LEVEL 2)
Pre-Requisites: Level 1 Drama or at the discretion of the T.I.C of Drama Dept
Five classes a week
Course Content:
This course builds on skills gained in NCEA Level 1 drama (and junior drama classes).
It requires in and out of class time work, and further develops student skills in devising, improvisation, theatre technology, acting, responding and reflecting on theatre practice, effective communication and group responsibility.
The class will also participate in off-site work at Toitu Early Settlers Museum Dunedin and attend viewings of shows at the Fortune Theatre, and participate in various practical workshops with different institutions (E.g. Royal NZ Ballet Company, Fortune Theatre etc.)
Assessment: Achievement Standards - 3 x Internal standards/ 1 x External standard (4 credits) TOTAL: 17 credits for year
(If you do the optional performance standard 2.6 which is 5 internal credits in term 3, you could gain a total of 22 credits)
Course Aims:
Enable students in drama to:
- develop communication skills through drama practice
- understand the social and cultural context of their work
- use their imagination, thoughts and feelings to create dramatic works
- develop critical and reflective awareness in relation to their own and others drama
- attain and extend a range of social skills
- foster self-confidence and esteem through drama performance
- extend their practical skills and craft of drama
- engage with drama as an expression of culture

If you gain a major role in the 2017 Production of Rock of Ages, you may be eligible to be assessed for your performance for A.S 2.6 as well. It would mean keeping a written portfolio throughout the rehearsals and handing it in before performing for assessment.
